Ornith 1.0 is an open-source coding model family that claims to trade blows with frontier closed models on agentic coding benchmarks.

That is interesting.

But the more useful question is not whether you should immediately replace Claude, Cursor, or your current coding assistant.

The better question is:

What does Ornith 1.0 make possible if you want a coding model you can run, inspect, and control more directly?

That is the angle worth paying attention to.

What Ornith 1.0 is

Ornith 1.0 is a family of open-source models from DeepReinforce focused on agentic coding.

According to the DeepReinforce launch post, the family includes multiple sizes:

  • 9B Dense.
  • 31B Dense.
  • 35B MoE.
  • 397B MoE.

The practical reason people are paying attention is the 9B model.
